Vent: The new online permit setup for the John Muir Trail just would not work for me.

I spent all morning hitting refresh with no luck, so what's the best way to get a spot when the system acts up?

Ugh, @the_andrew is right about tech failing, I used to love it but now I get why paper forms were better.

Tech just fails when you need it most, every time. Like those parking meter apps that crash during a street fair. Or the DMV site going down right before a holiday weekend. It's not just permits, it's everything now. Makes you miss paper forms sometimes, honestly.

Keep paper copies of everything important, like permits and forms. I learned this after the DMV site died on me three times in a row. Now I just mail in paper applications a week early to avoid the rush. It's slower, but at least it doesn't crash. Technology is great until it decides to take a nap right when you need it.
