Vent: Got told my rain gear strategy was trash
Some guy on the JMT Facebook group called me out. Said my Frogg Toggs were a death wish above 10,000 feet. He was right. Got caught in a hail storm near Guitar Lake last summer. Now I carry a proper hardshell and leave the cheap poncho at home. Anyone else have their gear choices roasted online?

Yeah I read something about foam pads losing insulation when compressed, sounds like your friend learned that the hard way.

Oh man, getting roasted like that online stings but sometimes it's a wakeup call lol. I had someone tear apart my pack list for the Wind River Range and they were totally right about my sleeping pad being way too thin for the rocky ground.

and actually a buddy of mine tried to do the JMT last year with just a foam roll pad and a thin bag liner. thought he was being ultralight. first night out he woke up shivering on granite at 10k feet, had to bail at the first resupply and buy a real pad off some dude in a trail town. cost him double what he would have paid at home. sometimes getting roasted early saves you that headache later, right?
