Took the slow route over the scenic route, my knees won finally
Last weekend I had to pick between two trails up to Mt. Baker, the ridge line with the crazy views or the old logging road that winds around the back. I normally chase the pretty path, but I've been dealing with a nagging ankle and the ridge adds 900 feet of elevation gain. I went with the logging road and honestly, it was the best call. The views were still solid through the trees, and I made it to the top in 3 hours without any pain. Anyone else ever skip the highlight reel trail and end up happier?

Listening to your body is winning, honestly.

Skip the pity party. It's a hike, not a surgery recovery. You saved what, an hour? Big deal. Ankles hurt sometimes, you push through and it builds character. But I get it, you wanted to feel like you made the smart choice. Just don't act like you discovered a secret life hack because you picked the easier trail.
