TIL the John Muir Trail is 211 miles but most people quit at 160
I was reading a trip report from the JMT Facebook group and a guy said only about 30 percent of thru hikers finish the whole thing each year, mostly from altitude sickness around Forester Pass. That kind of blew my mind because I always figured the JMT was a bucket list trip people actually completed. I'm planning a section hike from Mammoth to Yosemite this August and now I'm second guessing my timeline. Anyone here done that stretch and know if 6 days is too tight for a slow hiker?
