That $50 water filter I bought on the PCT nearly got me sick

Picked up a cheap Sawyer knockoff at a resupply in Kennedy Meadows back in 2018. It clogged up by day three and I was drinking straight from streams like an idiot. Anyone else cheap out on a filter and regret it?

Sticking with the Sawyer Squeeze has never let me down, even after thousands of miles. It's a bit more upfront cost but the reliability is worth it when you're in the backcountry. What filter are you thinking of trying next?

About 2,000 miles in on the Appalachian Trail I nearly gave up on the Sawyer because of how slow it was getting. But after a friend showed me the trick of backflushing it regularly I realized I was just using it wrong. Your post is making me want to give it another honest shot since I've been looking at the Katadyn BeFree but now I'm not so sure.
