Serious question, has anyone else skipped the John Muir Trail for the Tahoe Rim Trail?

I mean, everyone talks about the JMT like it's the only big Sierra route, but last August I had to pick between it and the full 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail loop. I went with the TRT and it was amazing. We did it in 12 days, and the views of the lake from places like Relay Peak were just unreal. Idk, maybe it's just me, but I liked having more access to resupply points and less of a permit headache. Has anyone else made a similar choice and been glad they did?

Totally get that choice. The permit system for the JMT is a real barrier, and the TRT logistics are just easier to manage. You still get that high alpine feeling without the same level of hassle.

Ugh, permits are the worst! My friend waited months for a JMT lottery spot and then had to cancel last minute. It really takes the fun out of just going for a hike. Sometimes easier is just better.

Wait, you did the full TRT loop in 12 days? That's moving! I did it in 16 and I was completely wiped out. Those climbs out of the lake basins are no joke, like the one up from Tahoe City. You must have some serious legs.
