Realized I wasted $40 on a paper map for a trail that's fully marked

Bought a detailed topo for the Lost Coast Trail, but the route is so obvious with posts and signs you can't miss it. Has anyone else bought maps for a route that didn't need one?

My buddy dropped like sixty bucks on waterproof maps for the John Muir Trail section near Mammoth. The trail is basically a highway with signs every half mile. He still has the map rolled up in its tube on a shelf, totally clean. We give him so much grief for it lol.

Sixty bucks for a map on that stretch is wild. That's like buying a GPS for a walk around the block. The trail is so clear you'd have to try to get lost. Bet he could have bought a nice dinner with that cash instead. It's gonna be a museum piece forever.
