Got caught in a flash flood on the Timberline Trail, lost my map
I was about 6 miles past McNeil Point on the Timberline Trail near Mount Hood when the sky just opened up last September. The creek crossing I'd scouted earlier turned into a raging mess, and my waterproof map case got ripped off my pack while I was scrambling up a bank. I managed to backtrack using my phone's offline GPS before the battery died, but I'm wondering how you all handle route finding in the Pacific Northwest when the weather suddenly turns like that?

Damn, that's scary. Did you have any backup paper map at all?
