Can we talk about how I swore I'd never pay for a water filter and then did
I always carried the little squeeze filter and figured any pump setup was just extra weight and money for no reason. Then I did the Wonderland Trail in September and a guy at the campsite near Summerland had a $70 gravity filter setup that filled four liters in about five minutes while I was still squeezing my bottle like an idiot. The next morning my hands were cramping and I had wasted almost an hour of the day just making water. I ordered the same setup when I got home and used it on a 4 day trip in the Olympics last month. It honestly changed how much I drank because I was not rationing anymore, which sounds dumb but it's true. Now I want to know if anyone has tried the inline version on a bladder, because I keep hearing mixed stuff. Did I just get lucky with mine or is the gravity thing actually the way to go?
The gravity thing is not actually the way to go for everyone. I did the squeeze thing for years and yeah your hands get tired but it's like 15 bucks and weighs nothing, and I'm not stopping to hang a bag every time I want a sip. If you drink a ton and camp near water sources it makes sense I guess but calling it "changed how much I drank" is a little much for saving your grip strength.
