Walked through the old Fisher Body plant in Flint before they tore it down, and the tool crib still had job tickets from 1978
My uncle worked there for 22 years and got me in on one of the last tours before demolition. What got me was the tool crib, all the wooden bins were still labeled in grease pencil and there was a job ticket from March 1978 for a guy named Delbert who checked out a 9/16 wrench and never signed it back in. The floor was so worn down at the main line stations you could see the shape of a man's stance sunk into the concrete, like a fossil. We do everything on laptops now with torque specs and scan tools and honestly most days that's better, but nobody's leaving a mark like that. Any of you ever get to walk an old plant before it came down, or still got a hand me down tool with somebody's initials carved in it?
