Unpopular opinion: that quiet Tuesday with 2 comebacks taught me more than any busy Friday
Last Tuesday I had a 2016 Civic come back for a noise I swore was a heat shield, and when I put it on the lift the second time I saw the real problem, a loose caliper bracket bolt I never touched. Then a Silverado rolled in 40 minutes later with the same complaint and I caught it before it ever left, just by slowing down and shaking every wheel by hand. Two comebacks in one day stung, but it made me change how I do my final check on every car, not just the ones that feel off. Any of you got a system that actually catches stuff like that, or do you just trust your gut and hope?

The "two comebacks in one day stung" line got me, because man, nothing humbles you faster than a car you already "fixed" showing back up. My track record for catching stuff by gut alone is pretty much a coin flip, honestly. What finally helped me was forcing myself to do the same dumb routine on every single car, even the ones that pay $40, which usually means grabbing each wheel at 12 and 6 and shaking like I'm trying to steal it. Takes an extra minute and makes me feel like a dork in front of the service writer, but the loose stuff shows up before the customer does. My gut still gets a vote, it just doesn't get to skip the check anymore.
