Thought I was saving money rebuilding a caliper myself. Lost 3 hours and still paid a shop $80 to fix it.
Tried to rebuild a seized caliper on my 05 F150 last weekend. Got the kit for $15. Took the whole thing apart, cleaned it up, put it back together. Still stuck. Turns out the piston had a micro crack I couldn't see. Had to tow it to my buddy's shop Monday morning. $80 labor and he had a rebuilt one on in 20 minutes. Not worth it for a daily driver. Anyone else waste a whole Saturday on a "simple" brake job?

Right there with you on that one. I fought a seized bleeder screw on my old Subaru for six hours before I gave up and took the whole knuckle off to a shop. Turns out they just heated it with a torch and had it loose in two minutes, charged me $30. Makes you wonder why we bother sometimes when a pro can fix it that fast. But hey, at least you know you tried and your buddy took care of you for a fair price.

... used to be the guy that'd fight every job myself just to save a buck, but after doing something similar on my old truck I started picking my battles. The time and headache just isn't worth it on stuff like brake calipers when a rebuilt one is so cheap now. Especially for a daily driver where you can't have it sitting on jack stands for three days. I still do my own pads and rotors but anything hydraulic I'm handing off now... learned that lesson the hard way too.
