That $60 torque wrench from Harbor Freight was right all along

Honestly, I spent 15 years buying the expensive Snap-on stuff because my first boss swore anything else would strip bolts. Last month I was doing a head gasket job on a 2002 F-150 in Austin and my fancy digital wrench started reading way off. I grabbed my buddy's cheap Pittsburgh one out of his truck as a backup and it clicked at the exact spec every single time. Turns out I had been over-torquing the intake manifold for years because that expensive unit drifted bad after I dropped it on concrete back in 2019. I checked the calibration on both with a torque tester and the Harbor Freight one was dead on at 45 ft-lbs. Now I'm wondering if I should just use the cheap ones for everything and only trust the nice ones for critical stuff like rod bolts. Has anyone else had a budget tool beat out a brand name in a real shop setting?
