Switched from using my phone flashlight to a proper headlamp under the dash. Should have done it 8 years ago.
Used to wedge my phone between my ear and shoulder or balance it on a brake pedal just to see what I was doing. That worked fine until I dropped it one time and cracked the screen on a control arm. Finally bought a $30 headlamp from Home Depot last month and it's a game changer. Both hands free and the beam actually points where I look instead of bouncing around. Doing a heater core job yesterday let me finally appreciate not having to reposition a light every five minutes. Anyone else make the switch later than they want to admit?

Did you really have to reposition the light every five minutes with the phone, or was it more like every couple minutes? I used to do the same thing and it felt like I was constantly fighting the phone just to keep the beam on the right spot. That headlamp sounds like it saved you a ton of frustration for sure.

fighting the phone" is exactly how I felt every single time lol. @robert_smith36 I remember one time I was trying to change a tire in the dark and I had my phone propped on the bumper. Then I dropped the lug wrench and it knocked the phone over. Spent like 20 minutes just trying to get the light back on the right spot while holding the tire iron. That headlamp thing is basically a cheat code for life.

Phone cradle was my fix for that. I clipped one of those magnetic phone mounts to the underdash bolt and it held steady no matter what position I was in. For ten bucks it saved me from buying a proper headlamp for a few more years.
