Showerthought: I heard a tech at the dealership say 'just replace the whole assembly' for a simple window regulator clip.

That mindset of swapping entire units instead of diagnosing the $5 broken part is what's killing real troubleshooting skills in our trade, so has anyone else seen this lazy approach become the norm lately?

Seen it too many times. Watched a guy order a whole new power seat motor when the gear was just stripped.

Right? @masonm85, saw a shop swap a whole window motor last week for a five cent plastic bushing.

Lean into it. Watched a guy at a shop replace an entire HVAC blower motor assembly because the fan blade had a crack the size of a fingernail. Five dollar part, hour of labor to swap the blade, but he billed the customer for a three hundred dollar unit plus two hours. Nobody even thought to pull the old one out and look at it first. That's the part that gets me, it's not just about saving money, its about the complete death of actually looking at what broke before you throw parts at it.
