Showerthought: I compared using a generic scan tool versus the factory software on a 2020 F-150 with a weird electrical gremlin.

The generic tool gave me a generic code, but the Ford IDS pinpointed a specific network module fault in about 15 minutes. Anyone else find the factory stuff is just worth the hassle for modern trucks?

Exactly. Those generic codes are basically just a starting point now, not a real answer. Factory software talks the truck's specific language, so it can actually find the broken conversation between modules. On anything with a bunch of computers, you're just wasting time guessing without the right scan tool. Paying for the factory software once beats losing billable hours on every single weird electrical job.

Wasting time guessing" is my middle name. I've spent more hours chasing ghosts with a generic scanner than I care to admit. I'm basically a professional guesser at this point.
