Rant: My apprentice said my old timing light was 'vintage' and it made me think.

He called it a museum piece while we were setting base timing on a '92 F-150, and honestly, it still works perfectly. Am I just being stubborn, or is there still a real place for analog tools in a shop full of scan tools?

Saw a video from a master tech at a Porsche dealer. He still uses a vacuum gauge for carb work, says it tells him things the computer won't.

Seriously, what can a gauge show that live data can't?

Tell the computer to show you a vacuum reading at idle. It can't. That old gauge catches stuff a scanner just skips over.
