Customer asked me to 'just patch it' and then watched me for 45 minutes
Guy rolls in a 2004 Civic with a hole in the oil pan the size of a quarter, says he's short on cash and wants a patch job. I told him a weld might hold for a bit but it's a gamble, and he just stood there in the bay watching me grind and weld the whole time without saying a word. Do you guys ever get folks who hang around and watch every move, and does it make you slower or do you get used to it?
Take it as a compliment honestly, most people who watch are just curious or worried about cost, not judging your work. I get it can feel weird having someone stare at you for almost an hour, but 45 minutes of silence beats them asking questions every 30 seconds. Just do your best and tune them out, that's literally part of the job now lol.
