A customer's old trick for stuck caliper bolts actually worked

An older guy at our shop in Phoenix kept telling me to soak frozen caliper bolts in automatic transmission fluid instead of penetrating oil. I thought it was just garage talk until a 2008 Silverado with seized rear bolts wouldn't budge after two days of PB Blaster. I gave his method a shot, left it overnight, and they came loose with a regular ratchet the next morning. Has anyone else found an odd fluid that works better than the usual stuff for specific jobs?

Honestly, how stuck are we talking here? Seems like a lot of work for a bolt when a torch usually does the trick in five minutes.

Remember a torch isn't always an option near fuel lines or brake fluid. Sometimes you need a cold soak method that won't start a fire or cook rubber parts. That's where these old fluid tricks really earn their keep.
