Used to blow through a whole roll of masking tape on a two tone job, now I use 3M foam tape and save $40 a car
Back when I started at the shop on 5th Street, I would mask off a two tone paint line with paper and regular tape, and it took me almost two hours to get it straight. A painter named Ray showed me the 3M foam masking tape about a year ago, and it bends around curves without wrinkling, so the line comes out clean on the first pass. Now the same job takes 40 minutes and I am not tossing half a roll in the trash. I still keep the paper tape around for big flat panels, but for curves it sits on the shelf. Anybody got a trick for keeping the foam tape from lifting on a hot day in the booth?
