Pro tip: wet sanding with dish soap got me a better finish than the fancy lubricant
Last month I was spraying a bumper on a 2016 Camry and ran out of the dedicated sanding lube I usually buy. I grabbed a bottle of blue Dawn from the shop sink, mixed a few drops into a spray bottle of water, and went at it with 1500 grit. I figured it would be fine but the paper stayed wet longer and clogged way less than what I was paying $18 a bottle for. I did three more panels that week with the same mix and got zero pigtails, which never happens for me. The one thing I noticed is you have to rinse the panel really well before paint or the soap residue messes with your sealer. I'm not saying drop your normal stuff, but it's worth trying on a scrap panel. Has anyone else gone cheap on their sanding lube and stuck with it?
