I finally got a clear coat to lay down right on a black hood and then my buffer pad disintegrated

It was a 6-inch wool pad from a brand I've had for about a year, and it just came apart in chunks halfway through the final polish yesterday. I had to stop everything, clean the whole panel again, and start over with a fresh pad. Has anyone else had a pad fail that catastrophically without any obvious warning signs?

Honestly, that "came apart in chunks" part is brutal. I read a forum post a while back where a guy said his pad failed because the adhesive holding the wool to the backing just gave up from heat and old age. He said it looked fine until it didn't, just a total surprise blowout. Makes me check the backing on my older pads now before I even start.

Ugh that's the worst kind of failure. My buddy had his pad delaminate mid-session last summer, left a nasty smear of wool and glue all over his rotor. Took him forever to clean the grooves out.
