Hit 1,200 hours on my current build and it made me rethink flat rate bidding
I do a lot of restoration work, and last month my hours log for one 1967 Mustang hit 1,200 hours before paint even went on. Most guys in my shop say you should bid jobs like this by the book, but that number showed me the book is way off for rust work. I pulled 5 full panels, rebuilt both frame rails, and still had to patch the trunk floor twice. Flat rate guys would have lost their shirts on this one, so now I add 15 percent to any resto bid that comes through the door. If you have a real hours number from a similar job, what did it come out to?
