Heard a seasoned estimator say something that stuck with me
I was grabbing coffee by the counter at a shop on Route 9 last Tuesday and overheard this old estimator tell a junior guy to never trust a used blend door actuator off a salvage car. He said he had a $4,000 comeback because the actuator failed after three months and fried the whole HVAC module. Has anyone else had a bad run with used electronics like that or is it just the cheap guys pushing them?

Yep, used electronics are a gamble that usually costs more in the long run.

Yeah that old timer knew what he was talking about. A buddy of mine put a used HVAC control module from a junkyard Ford Explorer in his truck and it lasted maybe two weeks before the whole dash started smelling like burnt plastic. The salvage yard said no returns on electrical parts so he was stuck buying a brand new one anyway, plus a wiring harness that got cooked. Sometimes you get lucky but with those electronics it's a roll of the dice every time.
