Had a weird paint reaction on a 2018 Honda Civic in Seattle last month
I was doing a quarter panel repair and used a standard 2K clear over the base. The base went on fine, but the clear started to get a weird orange peel and then some small craters. I followed the tech sheet for flash times and mixed it right. The shop temp was about 68 degrees. Has anyone else run into this with a specific paint line? I'm trying to figure out if it was a bad batch or something in the base coat.

Honestly, that sounds like classic contamination. A tech sheet won't help if there's silicone or wax in the air or on the panel. I've seen it a dozen times, especially in shops that do detail work nearby. That cratering is a dead giveaway. It's probably not the paint. You need to scrub the whole area with a wax and grease remover again, maybe even use a tack cloth right before you spray.

Sounds like you've been painting next to a car wash again.

Had a similar thing happen with a black Subaru. Turned out the detailer was using a spray wax two bays over. The overspray landed on my tack cloth. Total nightmare.
