Am I the only one who had a painter correct my blend on a silver Camry and it stuck with me?
So I was doing a rear quarter respray on a 2018 Camry in Atomic Silver, and I thought my blend into the back door was clean. A painter named Manny who has been in the trade 22 years walked by, grabbed my sprayout card, and held it at a shallow angle under the shop light. He pointed out that my metallic was laying down too wet, so the flakes stood up and read darker than the door. He had me drop my fluid to about half a turn, bump the air a notch, and do a drop coat from 10 inches away with the gun almost wide open. The next pull matched dead on and I have not set my metallic the same way on silver since. Just wondering if other guys here get their blend checked at an angle like that, or do you trust it straight on?
A buddy of mine ran into the same thing on a Lexus in Nebula Gray Pearl, swore his blend was invisible until an old timer told him to squat down and look across the panel toward the light. The metallic was standing up bad and the door read like a totally different color from that angle. Guy dropped his pressure, opened the fan, and laid a dry drop coat and it laid down flat. Now he checks every metallic at a low angle before he calls it done, straight on tells you nothing.
