Three weeks to get a simple HOA fence repair approved

My neighbor's fence fell over in a storm last month and I figured I'd just fix it in a weekend. Instead it took 21 days of emails and a $75 application fee just to get the HOA board to look at it. Has anyone else had their HOA drag out something this simple?

... actually it's not just the fence that matters to them, it's the precedent it sets. They're worried if they approve yours too fast everyone else will expect the same quick turnaround. Still, 21 days and a $75 fee is pretty ridiculous for something that's basically an emergency repair.

So you're saying they hold up stuff just to keep the system running slow on purpose? @charlie_allen I get your point about precedent but that's basically admitting they're running a backlog just to look busy. My neighbor had to wait 28 days for a fence permit because the inspector took a vacation and nobody covered his route. How is that about precedent? It's about staffing and them not caring if your fence falls over while they drag their feet. If emergency repairs got fast tracked without the fee, homeowners wouldn't expect the same for a new build. They'd know the difference.
