Question about HOA lawn rules after a chat with a new dad down the street

So last weekend I was out watering my grass and this guy from two houses over came up to me. He just moved in from a condo and was asking about our HOA rules for lawns. He said he spent $400 on a sprinkler system but then found out the HOA only allows certain types of grass seed. I never really thought about how confusing that stuff is for new people. It got me wondering how many folks actually read the whole HOA handbook before buying a house around here. Has anyone else had a rough time learning the lawn rules after moving in?

@mason_foster68 exactly, that handbook is dense. A buddy of mine spent a weekend installing a nice drip irrigation setup only to find out the HOA requires a specific type of pop-up head, ended up ripping it all out.

I spent a solid three days reading our HOA rules and still missed the part about only using native grass blends, so I feel his pain on the $400 sprinkler system.
