My HOA sent a warning letter for a lawn chair being 4 inches too far forward

Last Saturday I was sitting in my backyard in Alpharetta reading the paper, and I moved my chair like 4 inches to get better sun. Monday morning I got a certified letter from the HOA saying my furniture was encroaching on the common area easement. I called the property manager and she literally read me the rule from the handbook about "no personal items past the mulch line." Has anyone else dealt with an HOA that has way too much time on their hands?

@sanchez.mary nailed it - HOAs are just power-tripping neighbor squads looking for any excuse to flex. Tbh this whole thing is another sign of how people micromanage everything these days instead of just letting small stuff slide.

I actually READ about this exact thing in a news article just last week. Some HOA in Florida tried to fine a guy because his kid's bicycle was leaning against the garage door instead of being stored inside. These boards literally sit around thinking up new rules to enforce because they have NOTHING better to do with their time. Four inches is just INSANE, who even measures that? You should look up your state laws because a lot of places have limits on how strict HOAs can actually be about trivial stuff like this. Sometimes just threatening to get a lawyer involved makes them back off real quick since they know they're being ridiculous.
