Last week my sump pump died during that big thunderstorm and I spent $800 on emergency plumbing to keep my basement from flooding.

I was THIS close to a total disaster because I kept putting off replacing that 12 year old pump, and now I'm paying somebody tomorrow to install a backup battery system - has anyone else had to deal with basement flooding after a storm?

My neighbor's pump failed and he tried to use a wet vac to keep up. He ended up making a waterfall out his front door instead.

janab82 that neighbor of yours might have inadvertently discovered a new way to mop the floor. Waterfall out the front door beats a broken pump any day I guess. At least the wet vac was a noble effort even if it just moved the problem outside. Wonder if he thought about just shutting off the water at the main instead of playing firefighter with a shop vac.
