I finally fixed my lawn's patchy spots with a cheap soil test
My yard in Smyrna has had these bare patches for like two years. I tried overseeding and watering more but nothing stuck. Then a guy at the Ace Hardware on Paces Ferry told me to test the soil pH first. Turns out my dirt was way too acidic, so I threw down some lime for $12 and now the grass is actually filling in after 6 weeks. Has anyone else had their lawn suddenly improve after a simple soil fix?

Right, the pH thing is a game changer and nobody talks about it enough. I had the same problem in my backyard for ages, patches just would not green up no matter what I did. Finally borrowed a tester from a neighbor and found out my soil was basically battery acid. A bag of lime later and it was like night and day after a few weeks. Don't forget you gotta water that lime in good though, otherwise it just sits on top of the dirt and does nothing.

Dude same thing happened to me last spring. Poured a bag of lime and within a month the grass was actually filling in the bald spots. Never realized how much pH mattered until I tested it for like 10 bucks.
