Hot take: the guy at the Ace on Buford Highway taught me more about my lawn in 10 minutes than 2 years of YouTube
I stopped by the Ace Hardware on Buford Highway in Chamblee about 3 weeks ago to grab a new sprinkler head, pretty sure I just had a bad one. The older guy working the lawn aisle asked what kind of grass I had and I said fescue, and he kinda laughed and said fescue is the reason my water bill jumped to $140 in July. He walked me through how fescue goes dormant in the heat on purpose and I'd been drowning it trying to keep it green. He said let it go brown, water deep once a week, and focus on fall overseeding instead. I tried it on just the front yard first and honestly it looks way healthier now than the side yard I kept soaking. Also found out the county extension office does free soil tests, which I never knew about after 4 years of guessing. Has anyone else had a random hardware store guy basically save their yard, or am I the only one who was doing it wrong this whole time?
