After 3 attempts with big box store spray foam, I finally ordered a closed-cell kit from a foam supply place in Marietta and the difference in R-value per inch was night and day.

The hardware store cans just don't expand right for bigger gaps and I ended up shaving off half of it to get a flat surface for drywall, but the pro kit from Spray Foam Systems filled my rim joist cavities perfectly with no overspray mess - has anyone else found that buying cheap foam actually costs more in the long run?

Used to be the type to grab the cheapest can at the hardware store and call it good. Then I did a basement rim joist job with that stuff and ended up cutting out half of it because it sagged and didn't expand right. Tried the pro kit from a supply place and it was like night and day - filled every gap clean and solid, no shaving needed. Makes you realize the cheap stuff is just false economy when you factor in the wasted time and material. You ever go back and figure out what that kind of job actually set you back per square foot?
