The Orion Nebula looked like a blurry smudge until I bumped my focus knob

I kept blaming my telescope's optics for weeks (typical IT troubleshooting, blame the hardware first), but after I accidentally nudged the focus ring while switching eyepieces, everything snapped into crystal clarity. Has anyone else wasted a month dialing in gear when the real fix was just a simple twist?

Hold on, you bumped the focus ring and that fixed it? I spent three straight nights messing with collimation screws on my SCT thinking I had a wonky mirror. I was about to ship the whole tube back to the manufacturer. It never crossed my mind that the focuser itself was just a couple of turns off. Makes me wonder how many other "broken" telescopes are just sitting in closets because of one loose knob.

@keithharris did you check if the lock screw was tight before you tweaked the collimation?
