Showerthought: My first clear shot of Jupiter's moons last night felt huge

Three years ago, I got a cheap telescope and could barely find the moon. Last month, I finally saved up for a decent 6-inch reflector. Last night in my backyard, I saw all four Galilean moons for the first time, and it just blew my mind. Anyone else remember their first time seeing something like that?

Stick with that excitement, man. Once you get that first clear shot, you start noticing all the little details that make it real. What surprised me most was how fast the moons move across the sky from night to night. Did you try sketching their positions or just sit back and soak it in? I did both, and the sketches got me hooked on tracking them over time. Its a whole different level when you realize theyre not just dots, theyre worlds out there shifting around.

Was it the coolest feeling ever?

Oh man, I know that feeling... I spent weeks just trying to get Saturn's rings to look like more than a blurry oval. When it finally snapped into view, that tiny planet with the clear line around it, I just stared for like twenty minutes. It's crazy how a little dot in the sky can feel so big.
