Pointed my camera at Orion for 20 minutes to test a new rule and the stars came out as little dashes
I kept reading that the 500 rule is dead for modern sensors so I finally tested it on Orion last Friday from my backyard in Boise. I used my old 50mm at f/2.8 on a tripod, no tracker, and let it run for 20 seconds just to see. Instead of round dots I got these tiny streaks, maybe 8 pixels long, and honestly I kind of liked the look. So now I'm wondering if anyone here shoots short trails on purpose, or am I just doing untracked shots badly?
