My backyard Orion shot happened after we fixed our porch lights

I spent months getting folks on my street to point their lights down instead of up. Last Friday, I caught a bright image of Orion's Belt without any glare. Using less light at night saves power and lets the stars shine through. It's a cool win for both my photos and the local environment. How have you dealt with light pollution where you live?

Warmer bulbs are a good start. Adding full cutoff shields keeps all the light pointed down. You end up with a much darker sky for stargazing.

Saw a piece on the local news about towns doing this. They switched to those shielded, warm streetlights and it made a huge difference. You could actually see the Milky Way from the edge of town, which is wild. @charlesb89 has the right idea swapping his own out. Makes me wish my whole neighborhood would get on board with it.

Love that approach. I've been swapping my own bulbs for warmer, shielded ones.
