Heads up about stacking software for deep sky images

I processed the same Andromeda shot with two different free programs, and the one using a weighted average method kept way more faint detail than the simple median stack. What's your go-to stacking tool for keeping those faint galaxies clear?

It's funny how often the simple average gets outshined by a smarter method. I've seen the same thing with my own shots, where a weighted stack pulls out faint wisps the median just crushes. These days I'm sticking with DeepSkyStacker for most things because its settings give me that fine control over what gets kept.

That fine control is key for weird edge cases like satellite trails too. A smart stack can fix a single ruined frame without hurting the rest of the data. It's the difference between saving a night's work and tossing it.

But what if you just need a quick stack that works?
