Had a talk with a park ranger at the Grand Canyon that completely flipped how I see astrophotography
I was out at the South Rim last month with my setup, stacking shots of the Milky Way. This older ranger walks up and watches me for a minute. Then he says "you know, most folks here are trying to capture what the sky looks like, but you're missing what it feels like." I laughed it off at first. But later that night I sat without my camera for an hour just looking up. He was right. I've been so obsessed with getting the perfect tracked shot with my star adventurer that I forgot why I got into this in the first place. Has anyone else had a moment where a non-photographer said something that actually made you rethink your whole approach?

Forget the gear and remember that feeling is the real keeper, not the pixel count.

Oh man, I swear if I see one more "the camera doesn't matter, it's the eye" post while I'm trying to justify my latest lens purchase I'm gonna lose it. Like yeah okay Jordan, tell that to my bank account when I'm trying to convince myself that spending $2,000 on a lens was actually about "capturing the moment" and not just wanting a sharper image of my cat. My old phone takes photos that look like they're from 2005, and no amount of "feeling" is gonna fix that blurry mess. But hey, maybe I should just sell all my gear and start shooting with a disposable camera, right?
