Finally got a decent shot of the Milky Way after ditching my intervalometer

I was out at a dark spot near Flagstaff last weekend and my intervalometer battery died after 3 shots. I said forget it and just held the shutter button down on bulb mode for 25 seconds. The tracking via my star tracker was actually smoother without the intervalometer clicks shaking the tripod. Got a way cleaner core than any of my timed runs. Anyone else find that removing one gadget improves results?

Right on, that's such a bummer about the battery but pretty cool how it forced you into a better technique lol. Honestly, less gear sometimes just means less little things to go wrong and mess up a clear shot. That smoother tracking thing makes total sense now that you mention it, those tiny clicks can really add up.

Didn't realize how much I was overshooting my panning until I switched to manual focus and had to really commit. Got this one decent shot of a heron on a windy day because I just stopped fighting against myself.
