Bought a used 8 inch dob off a guy in Phoenix 3 weeks ago and I still can't get Jupiter to look sharp
So I picked up this Orion XT8 from a guy in Phoenix about 3 weeks ago for $200 and he said the mirror was in great shape. First clear night out in my backyard in Tempe I pointed it at Jupiter and it just looks like a fuzzy white blob with maybe one band if I squint. I did collimate it with a cheshire cap but maybe I did it wrong because the star test looks like a little comet tail. I've tried my 25mm and 10mm eyepieces and bumped the power up to about 240x and it gets worse not better. Is this a collimation issue, a cooling issue since it sits in my garage, or did I just buy a scope with a bad mirror? Any tips from folks who image or view planets in the desert would help a lot.
