Bought a $30 solar filter off eBay and it ruined my telescope lens

Tried to save some cash for the eclipse last year. The filter looked fine but it had tiny pinholes. Focused sunlight burned a spot right on my secondary mirror. Cost me $200 to replace. Anyone else have bad luck with cheap solar filters?

Did yours actually melt the glass on the filter itself too?

Wait, is it really that serious? I mean my cheap little banger got a little cloudy after a few weeks but I never saw any actual glass melting. I feel like people overreact sometimes, it's just a thin layer of reclaim if you ask me. Unless you're torching it red hot for like a minute straight what's the big deal?
