Picked the big-name brand saw over the no-name one and kind of wish I hadn't
I had to choose between a $450 DeWalt miter saw and a $300 one from a brand I'd never heard of at a tool auction. Went with the DeWalt because I figured it'd be safer, but the fence is slightly off from the factory and I've been fighting with it for three weeks now. Anyone else buy the name brand and end up with more headaches than the cheap option?

Three weeks and you haven't returned it? That's on you man, not DeWalt. I've had a DeWalt sliding compound miter for like 5 years and the fence was dead nuts from day one. Maybe you just got a bad one, but that $300 mystery saw probably wouldn't even still be running in 5 years. The company wouldn't exist to honor any warranty either.

Man, I bought a $30 miter saw off Craigslist once that was held together with zip ties and pure hope. Took it home, tried to cut a 2x4, and it shot the blade sideways into my neighbor's fence. That's on me for being cheap, not the poor bastard who built it in their garage. At least DeWalt gives you a fighting chance, right? My $30 mystery saw didn't even come with a box, just a guy who said "it worked when I parked it." Spoiler: it did not work.
