Just found out most people don't clean their tape heads properly

I read a thread on a recording forum that said wiping tape heads with a dry swab just pushes grime around. Apparently you need isopropyl alcohol and a gentle circular motion. Checked it on the Ampex manual from 1972 and they confirmed it. Anyone else been doing it wrong this whole time?

Ha, @ericnguyen you're definitely not alone on that one. Most of us learn some shortcut and just stick with it forever without checking. But hey, if it works for you maybe it's not "wrong" just different.
