Found out my $6.99 hot dog at the ballpark costs the team about 40 cents to make
I was reading a story on ESPN about stadium food prices and a food service manager for a minor league team said the actual cost of the hot dog, bun, and napkin runs them somewhere around 40 cents when they buy in bulk. That same dog sells for 7 bucks at the gate, and I sat there doing the math on my two dogs and a soda and felt like a clown. What got me was the napkin detail, this guy said they count every single one because napkins are one of the sneaky big costs over a season. I've been going to games since I was like 8 and never once thought about what the food actually costs the team. My buddy works concessions at a park in Ohio and he said the markup is even worse on bottled water, which cracked me up because everyone complains about that one already. So now I'm curious, what's the worst markup you've ever paid at an event, and did you know the number going in or find out after like I did?
