Why does nobody talk about how bad I-93 gets in the fall up near Lincoln
Three years ago I moved from Nashua up to the Plymouth area and everyone said the fall crowds were no big deal, so I planned a leaf peeping drive for the first weekend of October. I left at 9am thinking that was early, hit bumper to bumper from Exit 32 all the way past the Basin, and sat in the same line of cars for over an hour just to reach the Cannon Mountain exit. Last year I tried again but left at 6:30am on a Tuesday, and the whole run up through Franconia Notch took me 40 minutes with maybe five other cars on the road. Now I tell everyone moving here that if you want the notch without the parking lot traffic, go on a weekday before 7am, even if it means a bad diner coffee at that hour. Has anyone found a good breakfast spot near Lincoln that opens before 7 so I'm not stuck waiting on the highway with a cold thermos?
Wait, Exit 32 is in Lincoln, so how were you bumper to bumper starting there before you even got to the notch? Most of the backup I've seen starts further south around the Woodstock exit on leaf weekends.
