Warning: don't fall for the "Seacoast premium" on housing listings
When I moved to Portsmouth last year, every rental wanted $2,000 for a one-bedroom. I drove 15 minutes north to Dover and found the same size place for $1,350. Has anyone else noticed how far you can stretch your money by just skipping the tourist towns?

I paid $1,950 for a one-bedroom in Portsmouth last year and it was worth every penny. You pay for the walkability and the buzz of the downtown, plus I could walk to my job at the brewery on Congress Street. Dover is fine but it's a totally different vibe - quieter, more suburban, less to do without a car. You're not just paying for square footage, you're paying for the lifestyle and the commute savings.

Ask how long that walk to work actually saves you in winter.
