TIL my neighbor who's lived here 40 years swears the only diner worth going to is the one with the cracked parking lot, not the shiny new one
I was grabbing coffee at Mame's Diner in Concord last Saturday and this old-timer told me the new place on Main Street uses frozen hash browns and charges $14 for eggs, while his spot with the potholes has fresh-cut potatoes for $8, and now I'm wondering if we all just judge a diner by its sign instead of its skillet, so who's your secret gem around here that nobody talks about?

Forget the sign, its all about the parking lot cracks. Mame's has had the same busted gravel lot for 30 years and that's how you know the food is legit, the shiny new places are always trying to charge you for the decor.

Totally agree, the parking lot is the real menu. There's a little taco spot near me with potholes so deep you could lose a small dog in them, and their al pastor is the best I've had in years. All that money they save on pavement goes right into the ingredients, I swear.
