Rented a campsite at Franconia Notch instead of booking a motel in Lincoln last fall

Figured I'd save money and rough it for a weekend hiking trip. Tent leaked on the second night and I froze my ass off. Has anyone else made the mistake of thinking camping is cheaper than a motel in the White Mountains?

And then you probably paid more in coffee and breakfast sandwiches trying to warm up than you would've just getting a room. The math on camping always looks good until you factor in the gear failures and regret.
