Question about finding a good local mechanic in the lakes region after my last guy retired

So my mechanic of like 15 years, Bob over at Bob's Auto in Gilford, finally retired last spring. He was the kind of guy who'd let you hang out in the shop and drink coffee while he showed you exactly what was wrong with your alternator. Now my truck's making this weird grinding noise when I turn left, and I've been putting it off for months because I don't know who to trust. Has anyone found a shop around Winnipesaukee that's actually honest and won't try to sell you a whole new transmission for a loose bolt?

Heard a story from a customer last week who had a similar issue with a truck making noise in turns. Turned out to be a bad wheel bearing, not the transmission at all. I've used Mike's Garage over in Meredith a couple times for my work vans, he's been fair with me so far.

Yeah Bob was the same way with me, letting me watch him work and actually explaining what was going on. Mike's Garage in Meredith has been decent to a buddy of mine who runs a landscaping crew, he's been going there for years now. That wheel bearing thing is pretty common on these old trucks, especially if they see salt every winter. Might be worth giving Mike a call before you go somewhere that'll try to upsell you on everything.
